400 films in the distribution catalogue

The KurzFilmAgentur Hamburg has been operating a distribution service for supporting films and short film reels for cinemas in German speaking countries since 1994. After the establishment of  the distribution arm, the large number of inquiries from cinema operators - especially from the arthouse and independent sector - relating to the need for specifically designed distribution infrastructure to facilitate the screening of high-quality short films as supporting films or compilation reels had to be taken into account. Today the Agency has more than 500 cinemas which can be considered as regular customers. By the end of 2011, short films had received more than 275,000 screenings, with a total audience of more than ten million.

 

Most of our Short Film Distribution stock is 35 mm, many of the Agency's titles are also available in digital screening format. The Distribution Programme is growing continually and presently encompasses more than 400 short films of German and international origin, including multiple festival award-winners and numerous oscar-winning productions.

 

As a result of the substantial interest of cinemas in feature-length short film reels, the Short Film Distribution has built up a large stock of interesting and successful short film reels in its distribution catalogue. Flyers, posters and other promotional materials are available for every one of the reels while several also have their own cinema trailers. Film programmers can also put together short film reels to suit their own needs on a given theme or for a special occasion.

 

The distribution programme can be accessed through the online distribution database www.kurzfilmverleih.com. Interested parties who wish to find out more about the type of films the Agency has in distribution can view short clips of each film online. Of course all our films are available on request in DVD format to facilitate programmers in the assessment and decision-making process.

On average the KurzFilmAgentur Hamburg takes on 15-25 new films into distribution each year. Running-time, as a rule, should be not more than 10 minutes (exceptions are possible!). Significantly longer short films can only be taken into distribution if they are on a theme that is appropriate to one of our Short Film Reels. New additions to the distribution stocks are decided on by numerous audience votes carried out during our open-to-the-public "Pre-film Test" programmes. Filmmakers who wish to have their film taken into distribution are advised to contact the Agency's distribution team.
